Maha Parinirvana Day : Parinirvana Day. Parinirvana Day, or Nirvana Day is a Mahayana Buddhist holiday celebrated in East Asia in death place of lord Buddha ( Kushinagar ). By some it is celebrated on 8 February, but by most on the 15 February. It celebrates the day when the Buddha is said to have achieved Parinirvana, or complete Nirvana, upon the death of his physical body.

Day 1: New Delhi – Varanasi (By Flight)

  • Arrive in New Delhi and take a connecting flight to Varanasi, one of the oldest living cities in the world and a sacred site for Hindus and Buddhists.

  • On arrival in Varanasi, transfer to the hotel.

  • In the evening, witness the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat – a spiritually moving ceremony performed on the banks of the holy River Ganges.


Day 2: Varanasi

  • Early morning boat ride on the Ganges to see the sunrise and rituals on the ghats.

  • Visit Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Banaras Hindu University, and Bharat Mata Temple.

  • Excursion to Sarnath, where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon after enlightenment.

    • Visit Dhamek Stupa, Chaukhandi Stupa, Sarnath Museum, and Mulagandha Kuti Vihara.


Day 3: Varanasi – Bodhgaya (Approx. 6–7 hrs drive)

  • Drive to Bodhgaya, the most sacred site in Buddhism where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree.

  • Visit the Mahabodhi Temple, Bodhi Tree, Great Buddha Statue, and various international monasteries.


Day 4: Bodhgaya – Rajgir – Nalanda – Patna

  • Drive to Rajgir, the ancient capital of Magadh. Visit:

    • Vulture’s Peak (Griddhakuta) where Buddha preached,

    • Venuvana Monastery, and Japanese Peace Pagoda.

  • Proceed to Nalanda, the ancient center of learning. Explore the Nalanda University ruins and museum.

  • Continue to Patna. Overnight stay.


Day 5: Patna – Vaishali – Kushinagar

  • Drive to Vaishali, where Buddha delivered his last sermon.

    • Visit the Ashokan Pillar, Stupa 1 & 2, and Abhishek Pushkarini (Coronation tank).

  • Continue to Kushinagar, where Lord Buddha attained Mahaparinirvana (final liberation).

    • Visit the Mahaparinirvana Temple, Ramabhar Stupa, and Meditation Park.


Day 6: Kushinagar – Lumbini (Nepal)

  • Drive across the India-Nepal border to Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha.

    • Visit Maya Devi Temple, Ashokan Pillar, Sacred Garden, and various monasteries from different countries.

  • Overnight in Lumbini.


Day 7: Lumbini – Sravasti

  • Drive back into India to Sravasti, where Buddha spent 24 monsoon seasons and performed many miracles.

    • Visit Jetavana Monastery, Ananda Bodhi Tree, and ruins of ancient stupas and monasteries.


Day 8: Sravasti – Lucknow – Delhi (By Flight)

  • Drive to Lucknow Airport for a flight back to Delhi.

  • On arrival, transfer to hotel. Rest or explore local markets in Delhi.


Day 9: Delhi Sightseeing

  • Full-day sightseeing in Delhi covering:

    • Raj Ghat, India Gate, Qutub Minar, Lotus Temple, Humayun's Tomb, and Rashtrapati Bhavan.

    • Optional visit to Akshardham Temple or Red Fort depending on timing.


Day 10: Departure from Delhi

  • After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your onward flight with beautiful memories of a spiritually enriching journey.
